A Kavalan Ritual Specialist and Weaver Who
Carries the Memory of Fiber—Ibay
When not performing rituals, Ibay weaves banana-fiber cloth in the courtyard of her workshop. She recalls a time of poverty and isolation, when materials were scarce and unaffordable. Using locally abundant banana trees, the Kavalan people developed banana-fiber weaving for clothing—a technique that became a distinctive cultural craft of the Kavalan tribe.
